- Color: Red, orange and yellow, streaked with darker bands. Pale sapwood. As it ages, light streaks darken, and dark streaks lighten.
- Grain: Fine, even and irregular.
- Extremely hard, heavy and resistant to decay.
- Extremely oily and waterproof; often used for knife handles.
